Ok taking the plunge, what are the best street prices for 800/810 and 500/510 bundles - want cadence, HR, Maps.

Or does anybody know if i can use my existing Garmin forerunner 405cx HR strap with a non-bundled version?

Soo confusing, but any street price intel would be great, many thanks!

PS I am in Canada...but US prices good as well I can get shipped..

Cheers mates!
Happy New Year

Hmm, a Canadian friend just got an 800 bundle, I think whatever was cheapest on ebay was the cheapest he could find.

Any ANT+ strap should work, what you have is probably ANT+...

500/510 don't have maps...

You might be okay with the free open source maps. I didn't really like them, but many say they work fine.

Very happy with my 800, much better than the 500 it replaced. I don't have an Android/iPhone so the 810's additional "features" are useless to me.

Check out refurbished units at DrivenGPS. As good as new for a fraction of the price.

This past summer, Western Bike Works was blowing out the Edge 800 (no bundle) for $309, with a $100 rebate available from Garmin reducing the cost to $209. As someone else mentioned, you can use the free open source maps (I did) instead of buying the Garmin package and then just buy your own heart rate strap. Not sure if this deal will come around again, so you have to be patient.

I recently found that it was a lot cheaper to buy the component parts, instead of the bundle, on Amazon. Plus you get the chance to upgrade to the deluxe chest strap, which contains less plastic than the standard version.

Only real benefit to the 810 is the connectivity to an android or iPhone. Using bluetooth, your workout data is automatically uploaded to garmin connect as you ride; weather alerts are displayed on the GPS (never seen one); and you can allow people to track your location. Much of this can be done with a iPhone without the GPS.

The interface on the 810 arguably is slightly improved too.

I broke my 800 and upgraded to 810 through Garmin.

and there are third party ways that will auto upload anything from garmin connect to strava, if you swing that way.

it's also easy to send routes/turn by turn directions to the 810 via bluetooth.

I haven't used bluetooth to send or receive routing info, but would like to try this. You could do this with the old Edge 705, but that capability was abandoned in the 800. If this can be done via bluetooth, this could be a reason to go with the 810. It would be nice to arrive at a large event and be able to send or receive turn-by-turn directions .

It is cheapest to buy heart strap and cadence separately. Use open source maps and it is fairly easy to setup per the inst on DC Rainmakers web site at:

http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/download-garmin-705800810.html

See his recent article on what to do if you got one for Christmas:

To read 810 review see link below. To me an 800 is much better for the price.

If you need help w anything pm me as I just setup a new one with free maps and an SD card a few days ago and it was easy. The free maps are easier to use than the paid maps.

Also switched up to the 800 from a 500 and am very happy, despite the larger size. Like the streamlined stuff..
