Starting a new thread on pictures of bike shops with interesting decor. It would nice if you can attach name of the shop and its location if you can...if not, that's okay. :p

My LBS looks like a junior varsity convenience store without the jar of boiled eggs and beef jerky.

Thing that scares me about those photos is -- will the place smell right?

Distinct notes of Chinese rubber and WD-40 in the nose, with well-structured grease and wet cardboard yielding to tool-steel and sweat in synthetic fabric on the palate, and a lingering finish of grinder dust, saddle-leather, and aging tubulars. . . that's what we look for.

The Minneapolis shop is One on One bike. It's a magical place and worth a visit! Ask about the basement too, there's a ton of treasures down there.

Agreed.

But let's add Grand Performance and Angry Catfish to that list.

Second homes for me. :)

...and my wallet.

Despite how one might feel about Lance Armstrong, Mellow Johnny's is a cool and great looking bike shop/cafe.

I also love Elliot Bay in Seattle. The vintage bikes hanging from the ceiling are fantastic.

How can this thread be so many posts in and no mention of Peter's ex-shop Vecchios? What a shop SHOULD look like!I have no pictures but many of us have visited (or are fortunate enough to live close by).

Never been there, but will visit this winter on our ski outing in Colorado.

It will be fun to visit the shop, but we are spoiled rotten here in the Twin Cities with our own shops.

I haven't seen it, but it was ranked as one of the top 10 coolest shops in the world. I'll try to visit next time in CO. Which reminds me that I once stopped in Schwab's Cycles. Very cool and understated (it's in a plain cinderblock building behind a car wash). Another with vintage bikes worthy of a museum.

Our retail store has 40 years of framed autographed jerseys for decor, but I don't have any pictures of that handy. Here are some of our warehouse and studio though. Not a typical retail environment, walls in most of the rooms are done with our collection of mid-school components.

Most of these look more like dead galleries. I like something more like River City in Portland.

Attached is a link to my blog with pictures of my new remodeled shop

It is a work in progress, and I'm still looking for the right person to run that part of the business. Anyone who is interested - please give me a call (707)762-5601

Fyxo closed it's doors in late 2012. Which is a real shame as it was a fun place to visit and the owner Andy is a great guy (he still runs the Fyxo website and organises the Australian Custom Bicycle Show).

The space has been taken over by Northside Wheelers which sells mainly clothing and books. It's a quirky place with an interesting collection of mementoes (I bought a book about Eddy Merckx there). But I'm not sure that retail is really the best use of the owners skills

Call me a troglodyte, but bike shops should not look like a surgeons workshop. I don't like this trend.

There is something to be said about a shop that looks like a working shop..kinda organized chaos, but there is also something that irks me when the place is just dirty. IMHO, of course but if it's really a mess, not sure the quality of work would be there...

Some of the other 'boutiques' and 'studios' feel kinda strange to me, like the guy trying to give Eddie Murphy some lemon espresso in

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHZWWFmaFcI

I donno...rather see a bike shop with 'stuff' lying around, the right smell.

Gummee

I'll disagree.

When I'm working on stuff, a mess is acceptable.

BUT

Clean that #$% up at the end of the day!

Avoid shops that look like they're selling designer jewelry and bad coffee. Look for shops that look like this:

I agree with people"s comments about what I call "Foo Foo" Shops. My newly remodeled shop may be compared to those. But, I actually make stuff in the other 65% for the shop.
Check out Philip Williamsons photos he took of the whole shop at my recent Grand Opening Party - you can see both the "Boutique Shop and Gallery" and the workshop where I make stuff - http://www.flickr.com/photos/philipwilliamson/sets/72157637040818903/

a couple weeks ago i posted about a possible Weigle for sale. unfortunately, the seller is keeping it but here is a picture in a friends non-surgical LBS...which is/was a 3rd generation auto repair shop dating back to 1919

the other bike is a freshly painted Rickert (Dutch)
