Anyone experienced using in-between rear hub spacing with 135mm hubs? Seems like it could be a hassle, especially on the road.

I've got a couple of frames that are in between 126 and 130, which amounts to the same thing. You have to spread them a bit with your thumbs when pulling a 130 wheel in. Not much of a problem in comparison to fixing a flat on the side of the road though.

Are you looking at a frame that's spaced 132.5? Could it be reset to 135? Some hubs could probably be narrowed to 132.5 without much trouble.

Rivendell has been building/selling frames with 132.5 spacing for maximum flexibility for at least 10 years with good results.

That is the spacing Soma uses on their disc cyclocross bike.
I had 130 mm spacing on my Lemond Poprod Disc cyclocross bike. I am cheap so I bought 29'r wheels (the rear hub has 135 mm spacing). The first time I could not mount the wheel while the frame was in the work stand.

Just put the frame upside down on the ground, and it is easy to spread the frame to mount the wheel.

With 132.5 spacing, I am sure you could mount the wheel while the frame is in a stand.

Surly Cross Checks have this spacing as well. It works perfectly, but in the case of the Cross Check with horizontal dropouts, a good quality skewer must be used. The actual part of spreading the stays isn't really noticeable.

Thanks. I ask because Mike at Black Mountain mentioned he moved away from spec-ing 132.5 (forgot why).

Agree about the horizontal dropouts--one would think the correct angle would be best.

Maybe he got tired of discussing the pros/cons with customers? :)

I second the notion of using a high quality skewer. I had a Raleigh RX 1.0 for a few years with that spacing and I really had to tighten down the rear wheel so that it didn't shift when I stood up for a sprint. Other than that 132.5 is fine.
