I know that this has been discussed in the past, but my searches are failing. Sorry! :bike:

After the velonews article (http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/09/bikes-and-tech/drivetrain-compatibility-hidden-in-plain-sight_303199), we saw that we could mix a Shimano drivetrain, for example, with a Campagnolo rear wheel/hub/cassette.

[1] Is anyone riding this regularly? How does your setup work?

[2] I'm thinking about running the description above: Shimano shifters and rear derailleur combined with a Campagnolo cassette. What chain should I run?

[3] Am I going to need new chainrings, coming from 9/10 speed?

[4] Where the heck were those previous threads?...

Thanks for any help,
Mark.

I'm considering the same 'upgrade' to DA 9000 and am on the fence b/c it would mean replacing a few wheel sets ($$$). I'm very curious to hear the responses to this . . .

yes. it works.
i've done specifically that, dura ace 9000 11sp drivetrain with 7900 10sp cranks, campy wheelset and campy 11sp cassette. worked perfectly fine, no hiccups.
i used the shimano 9000 chain with a kmc quicklink because that's what came with the group, but i suspect campy or kmc would have worked just as well.

Yeah, works fine. Have a 9000 group with a Campy rear wheel and Chorus 11sp cassette since I am rebuilding my Shimano-compatible King rear wheel after a curb mishap. No problem.

Also have a SRAM 11sp cassette with an otherwise 9000 group, works fine as well.

So is it safe to assume, that with Shimano 6800/9000 shifters/derailleurs, you can use Shimano 11 speed and Campy 10/11 speed wheelsets?

Or put another way with Shimano 6800/9000 drivetrain you can use any wheelset other than Shimano and Sram 10 speed?

Yes

Yes

But you can put a shimano/sram 10s cogset onto an otherwise shimano/sram or Mavic or Fulcrum, shimano/sram 11s rear wheel.
