Have a guy who wants to sell me some Vittoria Open Corsa's CX T.T, pair, for a very reasonable price. Wondering if anyone has had any exp with 700x19's in a clincher they would care to share.
Thanks.

I've forgotten the brand but for me the 19s were like riding on a knife edge...no thanks with all the up/down around here.

Scary as hell? That's not good.

I'd ride 'em in a velodrome, but even my stupid 19 year old self many moons ago had his butt pucker the first time I went down a rural NC hill on 700x19 tires.

Harsh ride, I wouldn't use them around here for sure. 25s are just lovely thanks. Being Open Corsas should mitigate that to a certain extent? maybe not enough to matter.

all downside, no upside.

Okay. Well I guess that's. NO GO. Damn. I love gumwall tires and for the price I got all gritty....oh well. Back to trying to find Open Corsa's in 23 gumwall for an inexpensive price.

Thanks guys.

if road riding NO. more prone to pinch flats and all the others items people have listed here. Not a deal at any price if it was to be a tire I was to ride.

Stick with 23 or 25 for "general use and > than 25 for all others. T:eek:

Michelin used to make an HD Pro, or something like that, in 19mm. I think it had little "wings" on the side that were supposed to form a smooth transition with the rim. The wings did not work well because at the pressure required to prevent pinch flats, the wings separated from the rim. I recall using a pair on a Klein but cannot remember them being harsher than the other tires I used to pump up to 120 PSI. These days I would probably find them to be ball busters.

Used to ride the Michelin 19's all the time. At the time, thought they were fine. No particular issues except harsh ride. Do prefer 23's, but when I didn't know better, or that's what was available, that's what I rode.

I used to ride Continental 700x20 tires (I got a bunch of them for free), even on dirt roads, but I was 25 lbs lighter then. I wouldn't do it now.

Yup. When I switched to 23s I don't remember thinking there was a big difference. The 19s and looked felt fast.

Bah. I ran 18s for a little while. Felt super fast. It was fine. But now my tires measure 29 and up.

I know some guys who run 700x20 in northern winter weather to cut thru the slush. I also ran 19 tubies on a velodrome @ 160psi. Would never do that off the boards though.

700x19's ride considerably better with 23mm rims ;)

On 23s I ride in the 95-100 psi range.
I tried 19s.

Did 105 -- pinch flat.
Did 110 -- pinch flat
Did 125 -- pinch flat

Then I bought new tires.

used to ride them all the time when we didn't know any better, but there's no advantages, as suggested.

They're not that bad, but they are 'knife like' - hit a crack in the road parallel to your intended course and you'll need some mad handling skillz

Depends on whether you like your fillings to stay in your teeth or not.

I've always really wanted to try tiny tires out. just never been able to justify the purchase. never run into problems with 23s so id imagine i wouldn't run into problems, but i also weigh like 140 lbs at the most

I bought a bunch of 18-20s cheap last spring, different brands all 20 years old. Mid summer I put a pair on my '87 Crit frame Cannondale just for old times sake. I took the bike out for a flat 40 mile ride and thought they were fine. Haven't ridden it since. I'm sure they're more prone to pinch flats, and it's a bastard to get the tube inside the casing and not under the bead at some point around the rim. Probably worth avoiding for that aspect alone. Used to ride 20s as standard 20 years ago, and my Bianchi has 18c Continentals that I got from Gothard for cost of shipping. I think they look right on a certain vintage bike, but give me 28s for daily use.

They are good if you are just doing a TT on them. They are old school tech now regarding width, but still are great if you are using HED 3's. Fastest width with tri spokes aero wise.

Pinch flats are your tires' way of telling you to lose weight.
