Can anyone give feedback on what is available in a lugged or TIG steel road frame (any mfg) under $1000? Thanks.

off the rack kinda inexpensive at Surly and Soma Fab. Up a notch at Salsa. Two notches or more at Gunnar. Purdy at Kogswell P. To name a few.

Off the rack more than likely. I currently ride a stock Fierte 53cm without too much trouble. Just getting ideas as I have looked around and seen the full gamut from lower priced 4130 cro-mo surly to custom Mercian under $1000. I was saving for a CSi, only to be dissapointed. Thanks for the input.

I've known a few people w/Gunnar's, and they couldn't have been any happier w/their bikes.

Does it have to be new? If not, and you aren’t in a rush there are some great deals available on the Classifieds pages right here if you keep you eyes open.

There are sooo many beautiful used bikes that are nearly new that retail for twice that 1K but will sell for 1K. Post a WTB with your size and preferences and see what is out there. Otherwise, buy a Kogswell for about $800, that's easily the best new lugged steel value-wise on the market. The only TIG bikes that interest me personally are Pegoretti and there are used examples too for under 1K if you look. Unless you gotta' have new...

I have a new (new old stock, probably 2001) 53cm (stock geometry, 53x53) Colorado III with a 1" Icon carbon fork (with uncut steel steering tube). Never built...NEW! Let me know if you're interested. The paint scheme is identical to Doc Austin's legend http://forums.thepaceline.net/showpost.php?p=90958&postcount=17

Here are a few of my past purchases (shipped prices):

Waterford 1200 $425
Tesch 101 $450
Bob Jackson $550
Landshark $430

All look as good as new...

the jerk's pal just oredered a mercian. its going to be brown lugged track bike painted brown with pink panels and lug outlines. thed thing cost closer to what serotta used to charge for their steel forks than what most builders charge for their frames. who knows how nice it will be. it will at least have a great color scheme.
