Noise started today. Couldn't figure it out as I just put a new BB in and thought it couldn't be that....

Well, another one bites the dust. Served me a good 15,000 miles or so in the last year...

Might get it repaired so it can keep riding.

Did you use it to commute between salt mines?

15K mikes in a year??

that's fantastic.

nice bike, if the rest of it looks good, could be a worthy tube replacement candidate.

cheers to you, and the bike, for sure.

Dude, that bike should have been turned over to Child Protective Services years ago.

Oh man. What a bummer. That job is a bicycle killer.

Yup. Dedicated work bike. Frame saved and all and been hit twice on it.

I have a feeling she will see new life.

Haha. It's mechanically perfect, just a little dirty.

Why does it look like the bottle boss SHOULD be there, but isn't?

Report back after the repair. I'd be interested to see what it looks like.

Crack formed around the bottle boss. When I took the cage off it fell into the frame!

Maybe there's something to the old bias against holes/braze-ons on a tube. I'm wondering if there was some issue with the way it was built, corrosion, or ??? that made it crack there. The dealer where I bought my first Cannondales told me that they would eventually crack at the FD tab, which was riveted on. That seems a little more logical, as the rivet holes create an unreinforced weak point fairly close to the very stout BB area. I'd think water bottle bosses would leave the tube as strong as it was without them, if done properly. I've seen lots of frames cracked near tube junctions, but don't recall one that cracked where yours did.

I don't think the frame cracked because it was poorly designed or built. I rode the piss out of it and have been hit by cars twice on it.

Also SF roads are horrible.

I understand, just would have expected the DT to crack near the HT or BB if it was going to crack purely from fatigue.
