Anyone know what that stuff is? It's all over the threads of the Record BB. Suggestions for getting it off? Kindly appreciated.

Is it a sealant or something? It sounds gritty when I tighten it...

Thread locking compound. To avoid it backing out or loosing up. Don't remove it.

leave it on, but if you're putting those in your frame dry, that's a mistake, lots of grease in those cups and on the threads will make your life happy when it's time to pull them.

You can never go wrong with too much grease or lube. Just ask the pornstars! Lol!!!!!

Unless they're Italian threaded, at least IME.
In which case that thread locking stuff will hopefully avoid the drive-side cup backing out a bit from the forces of pedaling.
But… then again, tomorrow AM we'll probably get the true expert's view from the old spud…
… or a porn star. ;)

Dried loctite type stuff..mostly comes off when you install onto a properly prepped frame..you prepped the frame, tight?
AND if you are using the far superior Italian threading, still a prepped frame, lotsa grease and install TIGHT...NO glue please.
Frame prep, torque and grease are the keys to the 'keeping the cups tight' kingdom.
