Anybody remember if 26" bikes had fork crown down tube clearance?

If you are asking whether a 26" wheeled MTB could have the bars turn all the way in one direction without the fork crown hitting the downtube...yes, in general that is the case.

They should. I had to machine a few mms from the top of the rebound adjustment screw on my Fox fork. Chris King makes a tall baseplate when it needs even more:
