Totally unnecessary, self-indulgent item. And I love mine.

I have one too, love it! Souvenir from my first trip to Italy.

I thought you were going to post this outlier from the 'bay:

Though clearly $50k for a batman sticker isn't really discerning.. On the other hand, the copy says the price is $2M off...

If I had the habit of drinking wine I would have bought one long time ago :D

I have the belt thing :D

I gave one to my step dad a few decades ago. He has it displayed on the wall with a special light shinning on it.

Cool item - and it works very well.

I by no means have it all, but I do have one of those.

Love mine, and have given them as gifts to oenophile friends (both cycling and non-cycling) and everyone loves them—the design works flawlessly.

the design works flawlessly.

I heard it takes a while for them to break in, but once they do they're pretty good. Plus you can find spare parts for the older models. (at outrageous prices)

I received one as a reward for being chair of a cycling club. Wonderful piece and yes, it works.

i think this is a joke.

because there is a plastic part and it could very well break but i dont know how one would fix it. or break it.

That's the beauty of them—unlike lesser quality corkscrews that are flexy, leave shards of cork in your wine and break after one season, the Campagnolo corkscrew is sturdy, breaks in beautifully, extracts corks flawlessly and is completely rebuildable.

i think this is a joke.

It was. ;)

If I was going to get one, I would go for the compact model.

But, I was talking to a friend who told me that corks are becoming unnecessary. The Australian wine bottles come with screw off tops. Restaurants like screw off tops because they are less fussy.

I really like the idea of a campy corkscrew.. But, what is the point if screw off tops are better.

Srew-tops on wine bottles = press-fit BB

You are probably right. I am definitely not a wine connoisseur (sp?).

But, I was told that there may be some sort of a physical benefit in the contact point (seals in the flavor in addition to ease of not having to search for the corkscrew) between the screw off top over the plug in cork.

Definitely, not an expert here.

Or you could go "First Class" and get your wine from a box:

One of my all time favorite gifts for wine enthusiasts. I've never known one who knew the story of how Tullio created this corkscrew. Just an overall great piece of design and cycling history, not to mention a great conversation piece.

We have loved ours for around 20 years, it has opened thousands of bottles for us - every one flawlessly. Always fun to use, especially when guests are present. That Ribble price - ~$122 shipped to the USA - is a good deal.

" I've never known one who knew the story of how Tullio created this corkscrew."

While racing through the Italian Dolomites on November 11, 1928 with freezing weather and snow, he won the race and with that victory received a bottle of wine but he was unable to remove the cork with his wing nut-cork screw tool so Campagnolo sacrificed back over the Croce D’ Aune Pass to his Fathers work shop and created the cork removal mechanism known as the Campagnolo cork screw. This handy tool, which is in use and famous today, enabling bicycle enthusiasts needing access to wine a way to quickly remove the cork and was one of the many inventions from his father’s Vicenza workshop that he is well known for.:)

http://digital.hammacher.com/Items/82643/82643_1000x1000.jpgCall me a luddite, but does anyone else feel that an electronic corkscrew deprives one of the tactile experience of removing a cork and takes the romance out of drinking the wine?
