View Full Version : Who looks best on the bike?

Kirk Pacenti

My vote goes to Mikael Rasmussen. That guy just looks better / more comfortable on the bike than anyone. Grace incarnate imo. 'Cept of course when he comes un-glued in the TT...what was that???

He is huge but really floats on the pedals. I watched roubaix 05 last nite and he was either in the drops or on the hoods the whole time while everyone else was shiftin' around. Just smooth and poker faced the whole time.

My second best would be a tie between Escartin or Mancebo ;)

macebo and escartin. Mancebo reminds me of Escartin the
way his body contorts back and fourth on the bike.

Nice choice! Probably the greatest Mexican cyclist. He rose to the top level of pro cycling with very little coaching and not much of a support system. He brought a wonderful combination of natural talent and hard work.

Simoni looks great on a bike - very smooth and comfortable. Just don't make him time trial.

And while this won't be a popular pick, Aitor Gonzalez has a wonderfully smooth stroke and perfectly balanced position - one of the few riders I want the motorbike to linger beside so I can just watch the pedaling action. I would buy DVDs of his races just to see that regardless of the other race elements.

Toward the end of the movie Hell of the North when the lead group is approaching the velodrome, and the camera does the slow motion on Moser in the drops. Smooth and fast.

WE don't know nuttin' about Millar (Robert). I have some pretty good contacts here too. The man remains an interesting enigma.
In 2003, he was awarded with one of a handful of places on the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame but was not seen at the awards ceremony. People who were fairly close to him don't even know which country he now lives in.

Anyway stylish riders - F. Moser was one.

Bettini probably doesn't look that good but just saw again last years Zόri Metzgete. He was awesome on that race. Looked like a MAD DOG. On his first attempt to escape from the leading group on the last lap, his chain fell-off and he was captured. As soon as the guys caught him he went again and ended winning the race. To me he looked great in that one ( nasty weather also)

If you get a chance, try to find a photo of Knetermann in one of the classics in a break. Dead flat back, completely relaxed arms, smooth as silk spin. Just classic. I think that I saw a shot in an old issue of Ciclisme or Cycle Sport. If anyone wants to look great on a bike, Knetermann is the one to emulate. Of course, most riders can't get into a position like that anyway.

Hall O' Fame . . .

• Bettini . . . Always looks like he was born riding the bike. Perfectly proportioned and always a motivator (though that really doesn't have much to do with how he looks.)

• Jens V. . . . Determination personified. Always looks so intense!

• Axel M. . . . You can always tell it's him--even in those WCP aerial shots from a thousand feet up!

• Cipo . . . cool, cool, cool, COOL!

Hall O' SHAME! . . .

• Fernando Escartin . . . He always looked like he was pedalling a kids tricycle.

• Mancebo . . . Looks like he had serious scoliosis as a kid and never got a brace or anything. How he manages to pedal that thing so fast I'll NEVER figure out. He ALWAYS looks like he's dying!
