So after Thanksgiving dinner I am finding myself in the fortunate position of possibly getting a used Colnago for minimal cost. A family member is involved in the funding of a team and told me he would do his best to get me one if I could get him a size before they donate/sell them all. For the last four years or so I've ridden five days a week at a minimum, yet somehow I still don't quite understand my ideal size as I generally roll on much lower zoot stuff than a colnago. It would likely either be a c59 or a M10 from last year. I'm guessing I am probably a 56 but here are my measurements for anyone who knows more than me, which is pretty much everyone. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Measurements
-------------------------------------------
Inseam: 33
Trunk: 26
Forearm: 13.25
Arm: 25.5
Thigh: 25.25
Lower Leg: 22.8
Sternal Notch: 59.25
Total Body Height: 71.9

How about 1) getting yourself fitted at the LBS you trust most, then 2) explain to them that you're going to be getting a Colnago through some family connections, here are the appropriate geometry tables, what does the fitter recommend?

Sounds like a good plan, except the way this particular family member works it's probably I give an answer tomorrow at our brunch or no go since he's super busy with about a million other things and he told me they are about to get rid of the bikes. But if I give an answer tomorrow he will make it happen because it'll be in the forefront of his mind and he can actually do it. Ultimately I'm fat and not very fast, so if I get in the ballpark I'll be happy and a cheap or free Colnago can't be too bad no matter how you look at it.

Is it a C59? A sloper? If so, I think you want a 54s. If it's not a sloper, I think you want a 57 (if you like a shorter tt) or a 58 (if you don't). And when you're done with the bike, sloper or not, please sell it to me.

What do you currently ride?

52s looks like a 55tt, and 54s looks like a 56.5 tt.

You know what? I just looked at the Colnago geometry chart and realized that I can't figure out Colnago's geometry.

I started an "explain Colnago geometry please" thread a while back. I think the bottom line was choose based on TT length.

Yeah, that's what I thought. In which case, my comment above is almost certainly right. But man, the head tubes on the slopers are silly tall, aren't they. I mean, it's hard to know what to make of that, even for an old feeb like me.

Regardless, given the awesome advice I've given in this thread, I'm pretty sure I've earned a 50% share in the bike.

I'm currently riding a 57 top tube but feel like the 56 I had before might have been a bit better fit. Who knows if this will actually happen, but if I give a solid answer tomorrow there is a very good chance I'll end up with something since this particular relative is very nice and likes to help people out. My fiancé managed to get one before me, but she's a blood relative and I'm not, but now that a wedding is a time certain I like my chances.

Get a 58 if it's not a sloper and a 54s if it is. You'll probably be fine. Good luck!

looks like the 54s might be the close fit. here's some advise on Colnago fit. http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/reviews/colnago.shtml

Another vote to go for the 54S since it has the 565 effective top tube.

As Louis mentioned "bottom line was choose based on TT length".

But man, the head tubes on the slopers are silly tall, aren't they.

since the headsets are internal, you'd subtract 18-20mm to get the equivalent HT in a frame that would take a king.

despite this oversight, yes you do deserve a 50% share.

54S. I am your size and ride a nag.

57 or 58 in trad geo. I'd go 57.

Bing, bing, bing, we have a winner!!!

I'm going to say 54s based on what people think and the geometry charts, and the need to come up with an answer this morning. If I end up with one, I'll post a pic or two.

Your measurements are very similar to mine, and for what it is worth I would go with a 54s if I were buying a Colnago.

If it is the incorrect size would you lose your shirt if you had to sell it

Just get several sizes and keep the one that fits. And sell the rest here on the forum. And make sure there's a 54s for me. :hello:
