Says it's Davis Phinney vintage. Points out the difference in the chain stays. Can someone with more Serotta knowledge than me explain the background of this bike, especially the stays?

Gracias!

serotta did that because they looked awesome.
mr. bedford told the jerk there was no performance advantage or disadvantage to doing it.

I think I read somewhere that Davis Phinney had some heel clearance issues so they bent the chainstay to accomodate. The rest as they say, is history.

I don't think it's an 84, more like late 80's. I know the Davis Phinney
model was in the 89 catalogue.
Serotta developed the bent chainstays for the 84 olympic teams but it wasn't
standard feature until after the 89 catalogue.
as for differences between the Davis Phinney and other model
the 89 Catalogue states "slightly steeper, longer geometry to the Asymmetrical
Davis 'Sprint Control' power rear triangle.
Mark Bulgiers site has a few Serotta Catalogues
