I remember in the beginning, each domain name was reserved for that type of business, the most abused, .net was supposed to go to internet service providers. They it got to the point of money is money.
I like their quote
"As well as domain names set aside for brands.." it won't happen. They will set aside that and just charge more money like .TV which is actually for the (unheard of to me) country of Tuvalu. But anything.tv reminds you that it must be something related to television or multimedia.

Capitalism drives everything. Look at the cost of buying parked domains. I have a woodturning realted business and the opening bid for woodturning.com was $11K. For me that is 2-4 years profits (very small business) but being the honest computer guy, I didn't go out and buy .TV, .BIZ, .NET etc. gould have sold them and had a vacation in some tropical island....
Ethics got in the way, damn it.
