View Full Version : What do you have under your stationary bike?

Getting my recently purchased (used) Lemond Revmaster all cleaned up and ready to go is at the top of my Thanksgiving break holiday to-do list. I think I’m going to put it in the living room in place of the Concept 2 rower (since my right elbow is still bothering me, and I’m pretty sure the rower would only aggravate the situation, since rowing is what initially caused the problem in the first place).

So, I need to decide if I want to put something on the carpet between the Revmaster and the floor. Any suggestions?

TIA
Louis

I have a 32" wide piece of spare berber carpet under my bike when it's on the trainer in the basement. I use it to protect the main carpet.

I use carpet samples under my trainer.

So you guys who put carpet on top of carpet (which presumably is over a pad) don't find it to be too spongy?

I use a black rubber "sweat mat" from the local gym equipment / sporting goods store.

It's about 2' X 5'.

It takes the edge off the noise and vibration plus it cleans up with a paper towel and some spray cleaner.

Tired old yoga mat someone left at my wife's studio after a class. Hang it up to dry after each session and it won't get too funky by spring.

You don't have the Kirk frame nearby to encourage you to build it,
while you crank away on the trainer?

Yep, an old or cheap yoga mat works just fine. An advantage of a yoga mat is, it's light enough to easily pull up and hang outside to air it out occasionally to defunkify the sweat smell.

I use a gym mat. Unimaginative, I know.

My basement has fairly dense berber carpet over minimal padding. So the berber over berber is not spongy at all.

I picked up some bulk "anti-fatigue" mat at my local Lowe's. They sell it by the foot. It does an excellent job and is easy to clean up, but is an absolute fail at living up to it's name.

Came in handy this morning...32/33 degrees and heavy rain in the Carolinas.

Mine too

If I was on carpet, I'm not sure what I'd use differently but I'd be darn sure it was stable

the rubbery sweat mats or garage mats work well, and can be found cheap

Mostly broken dreams under my trainer.

In my case, given how much I hate riding these things indoors, it's probably just nightmares...

I use the runners that the real estate agents use in their open houses. You can buy an end piece at places like Home Depot. I use a clear plastic one.

I use a treadmill mat under my Kurt Kinetic to keep it off the bamboo flooring, which is pretty soft as far as floor coverings go.
