I ask because I have a 5 arm chainring that came in a Campagnolo package that says "Chorus Original Spare Parts" and it's a 52 (52/42) ring. It's says 10 speed UD, and is relieved on the mounting ear's like 10 speed chainrings are. Just didn't remember Chorus was 10 speed before it went 4 arm like Record. Triple maybe?

Yes - they exist. Mine is an all-alloy from 2003 - the last year it was all alloy I think.

Well....I have a 4 arm all alloy double Chorus crankset, and it's either 2004 or 2006. Just didn't remember a 5 arm Chorus before that was 10 speed.

Mmmm... 5-arm Chorus. To my eye, an exceedingly beautiful crank.
These do it for me too:

Agreed, last and best looking of the pre-carbon cranks. The 5-arm spider was nostalgic to the halcyon days of Super Record Merckx while the 4-spider arm was the transition to the modern crankarm chainring attachment. I prefer the 5-arm spider but there's no sense with getting in the way of progress.

The 5 arm chorus 10 crankset rocks. I've got it on my Bianchi. The chorus crankset is finished way nicer than centaur. I was disappointed when chorus went 4 arm. I thought it was a nice separation between it and record.

Crazy that these gen1 cranks have been posted twice this week. I nearly regret buying the ones out of the classifieds. Fortunately, they went to a good home.

5 arm Chorus 10 was 2000 - 2003. I don't think the pic pbarry posted is from 2000 though, as early 10 speed rings had a sticker that said "10 Speed", not "UD". UD rings showed up in 2003. Hidden bolt Chorus started in 2004.
10 speed Chainrings:
2003: 39/52; 39/53; 42/52, marked "10 speed UD"
2002: same combintations as 2003, marked "10 speed"
2001: same as 2002, marked "10 speed" (there were also 9 speed rings, which have a different part number than 10 speed rings).
2000: same combintation as 2003 (Chorus rings don't show much in the 10 speed supplement to the catalog, but the Record rings show the same "10 speed" sticker as 2001. 9 speed rings had no sticker.
My question for Peter is whether the early (2000-2001) 10 speed rings are any different from the 9 speed rings of the same year. They had the "10 speed" sticker and a different part number, but is there actually any difference in the ring? My guess is no (hence the sticker instead of something more permanent), but I've never measured.

I am pretty sure the small rings are the same. I also think all 10spd marked large rings are milled to sit closer to the small ring.

Makes sense, but I always thought it seemed odd they would machine them differently and then just slap a 10 speed sticker on them. It was the sticker that made me dubious about any real difference.

Those old Carbon Record cranks had one big problem, the female pedal fitting in the crankarms would loosen. Not a pretty picture.

The 5 arm Chorus I have for sale says "10 Speed UD", so it must be a 2003 then. Thanks

I think they were but don't really know. Later '10s' rings had some relieving where they touched the spider but in reality, it meant little.

I had a 52 (52/42) chainring for sale over in classified. Said 10 Speed UD. Was relieved on back side. From this....looks like a 2003. Since no one wanted it, might as well keep it. Some day, someone will be looking for one, or as someone said....wanting to update a C Record to 10 speed. Love these conversations.

I think my Record (circa 2001) Record Triple Crank was a 5 arm.
It was first generation 10 speed.

That was me. Great use for these rings. I debating buying yours as a spare.

I also have a new never installed Record 52 ring (52/42 10 speed UD....relieved back) 4 arm in silver in original packaging. This was last one before the Champaign color. Beautiful ring. Has 8 shift pins plus ramps. Have no idea what I'll do with it. Probably should put on classified. I just seem to collect these old rings.
