I got these with a SunTour group that was on a circa 1990 bike.

Of course I posted that so confidently but then I can't find an image of the old pedals. It seems Keywin has a new pedal system.

So I can't confirm it. Someone with a better memory than me, please pipe up.

Talon.

Check out Speedplays website. They have a slide show on the history of clip less pedals.

Thanks. I'm using many of the pedals farther back in the timeline than the 1992 Talons. I didn't get the cleats for them, so they will have to remain on the shelf for the time being.

That's a little surprising, particularly since the designs (Speedplay and Coombe) are so similar in concept.

Wonder how many pairs of Coombes were ever made? Did Ol' Man Coombe ever surface? I recall reading he'd suddenly disappeared. Jimmy Hoffa all over again.

I like to try weird old stuff, even if it's bad. I rode some on Sampson/SR pedals last year.

My first clipless pedals were the Sampsons. They're ok when you're on the pedal, but once you unclick and your foot is on the ground, you're walking on the back end of the cleat....after a couple of pairs of busted cleats, moved to look style pedals and never looked back. Don't even think you'll be able to find cleats for the Talons.

Bill was my bicycle mechanic back in the day when he lived in Maryland just outside D.C. To date he is the most detail oriented mechanic/engineer I've meet. He moved to CO to design and manufacture his pedals. I last talked to Bill at a viewing years ago when he was still very much involved manufacturing his pedals.
