It looks like my old MTB will handle commuter duties this winter.
I'm fendering it and it needs some new rubber too.
There will be a set of studded tires for the nasty stuff but what would you all recommend for the days with clear roads?
I haven't bought 26 inch tires in ages.
And BTW the commute is all pavement, about 7.5 miles each way.
Thanks.

I have been commuting on Michelin City slick tires for a few years now. All pavement. About 12 miles round trip. They have held up pretty good so far.

I'm guessing that you will need a pretty skinny tire to clear the fenders so try Performance Bike's Metro or Metro-K if you want a Kevlar belt. They can usually be had for $10 (on sale) to $18 tops. They are either 1.25 or 1.5 inches.

I've been riding the Panaracer Ribmo's for years now. Some say it's a harsh ride though due to its anti-flat compound. I've been fine with them.

I really like the sense of "no worries" with these tires esp on commute miles.

Have been debating Panaracer Pasela's that everyone raves about for replacements but it's hard to replace something that just works.

Mine are 1.25.

How wide? For 26x2.0", I like the Schwalbe Marathon Supremes. Durable, but not sluggish.

I will have to see what fits once I have the fenders.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions above.
