As I was recently reading a post on another forum about a young family man who was involved in a cycling accident and cannot work, it occurred to me that such events should serve as a reminder for everyone about the importance of disability insurance. I am no insurance peddler, and indeed I self insure or take very high deductibles for most risks, but for many of us our ability to earn income is the most valuable asset we have and is certainly worth insuring. At least for me, disability insurance is relatively cheap and is a no brainer to protect my income in case I am disabled by sickness or accident. I am curious what the general thoughts on disability insurance are among our community here.
