Just use the Campy 10s Ergo. Leave all the Shimano 9s in place, including the rear derailleur, put the cable on the wrong side of the anchor bolt. The only thing I don't recall is if DA was included in this compatibility thing or if it was an Ultegra-down thing.

I use this on our tandem. Campy 10s Ergo up front, ratcheting left shifter so no need for any Campy front derailleur. Stock Shimano 9s drivetrain in the back (XT rear der, it's silver, maybe 2005 or 2006 era bike, blue road with discs). Works great, even with the mile long derailleur cables (stock cable/housing).

No need for 10s chain, assuming you're using a 9s cassette.

I saw this and had to jump in. From the replies given thus far, no you are not dreaming.

Yes, running a Shimano 9-speed rear wheel will work perfectly well with a Campagnolo 10-speed Ergo shifter and Campagnolo 10-speed rear derailleur combination. Including the existing 10-speed chain. You will have to adjust the the high & low stop screws on the Campy rear derailleur. And of course, you will only use 8-clicks on the shifter as the low gear stop screw on the derailleur will prohibit reaching the last click.

I found some RS80-C50 shimano wheels on blowout, since they only go to ten, no 11 for you!

now I can cash in on my campy cassette pile and wait to go to 11

Agree works great, Campagnolo 10s, shimano 9s cogset, and Campagnolo 11s with shimano 10s cogs use a 10s chain
