View Full Version : Recommendation for tights please...

These are for the gf who is a lot more picky than I am.

The must haves:

chamois,
near full-windproof in front,
insulated (fleece, I guess).

I've recommended plenty of great tights with the chamois and windproof, but the insulated is stumping me.

Anyone?

I will have a very uncomfortable winter riding season if she (I mean 'I'...) doesn't get this taken care of...

Thanks.

Isn't the answer always Rapha? (http://www.rapha.cc/womens-winter-tights)

Oops, no chamois. Which is the point and why nobody makes them with one. You can clean the outer layer less often without influencing hygiene.

Also available without bibs for women.
I wear the knickers version of this.
I prefer to go this way rather than pulling tights over another set of bibs but it does limit you if it warms up while you're out.

Haha, why is it always wrong to mention Rapha.

I just rode with with Craft Performance Storms this morning. I have sans chamois, but they make both. The are SO comfortable. My new favorite. They are replacing my Assos for comparison.

I know it's vogue to like the most expensive stuff out there (Assos and Rapha), but quite honestly there are other choices out there. I wear a lot of the Craft line and they quality is high.

Assos for sure. Gore also makes great winter gear. I've wanted to upgrade to Assos but just can't wear out the Gore jacket, bib tights or gloves.

True. But I wore bib knickers on the velodrome tonight. Once you live here, 52 is cold.

These don't quite match your criteria but I am a huge fan...

I've been eyeing those, and the bib knickers. But they don't make the full-length tights in Women's, just the knickers.

Hmm, wonder how they sell in the UK with that name.

yes it's strange. My wife wonders the same thing about the tights.

Knickers is a topic for a separate thread ;-)

Not to belabor the point -- certainly is her prerogative to have whatever criteria she wants -- but why a chamois?

Chamois-less tights are about the ideal design, imo. You get to wear the shorts that are already gooch approved, and have something you can wear through a whole weekend before washing with the tights.

If you're going the chamois route, I've been a big fan of Castelli's winter/foul weather gear.

Tell her to wear shorts and HTFU. ;)

That said, I'd forgotten how c-c-c-cold California is. Anytime.
