Isn't that what the R in SRAM stands for?

Started Recall After Mechanical.

Admittedly a half-hearted, half-awake attempt at it this morning.

The online articles have been pulled. Their lawyers must be busy today.

Link feeds to an article about hydro brake recall now. Didn't Cav call this during the Tour? My worst fear about hydro, btw. That confirms regular mechanical for me.

SRAM recalls Hydro Road brakes

from BikeRadar.com Road on 11/3/13 11:24 PM

SRAM has just released early details of a safety recall for its new RED22 and S700 Hydro Road brakes shipped to OE and aftermarket customers after September 5th 2013. Exact details for the recall are currently unknown. The recall applies to all Red 22 and S700 Hydro Road Rim and Disc brake systems with serial numbers between 36T30000000 and 42T39999999. The serial number can be found on the brake caliper (rim or disc) and on the outside of the box containing the product. SRAM say that no previously made product is affected by this issue. If you’re affected by this recall, it’s recommended that you stop using the product and contact your original place of purchase for replacement. Stay tuned for further details.

Delta brakes actually work. I have a set. They're fine. Not as nice as modern dual pivots, but in contrast to items pulled off the market, they will stop you with no danger.

I guess you wont be mountain biking either...I wouldn't say a recall damns the future of road hydro. I would say it just reinforces to me that sram still hasnt figured out wet brakes. the XX on my mtb are $$$$ and terrible

According to the article, not all of the SRAM hydraulic brakes are being recalled, just those manufactured after a certain date. This more likely points to a component manufacturing issue, rather than a design issue. Recalls for products manufactured during a certain time period (and where products manufactured before and after are perfectly fine) happen in all industries.

I'm not a particularly strong advocate for hydraulic brakes for road bikes (and feel they probably present more disadvantages than advantages), but I don't see anything in this recall that should sway anyone one way or the other.

Good callout!

I find no need to move from my current and simple cable actuated, dual pivot brakes on my road bike(s). As long as set up properly w/ good pads and cables, this is all I will need for effective stopping and modulation.

Having used em, I'm building the next 4 bikes with them (2 frames ar literally next to the stand with all components ready).

They work better than everything else (both rim and disc...).

I'm holding my snark until more info hits...

Well to compare higher end wet disc, SRAM to shimano, shimano's seem much more sophisticated, work better, IMHO. Not in a rush to be First, just best.

Due to an uncaught typo in some early legal documents their corporate moniker was changed from it's original state, SRMA.

Mystery still surrounds the leading "S" while the commonly used acronym for Returned Merchandise Authorization remains deeply embedded in the corporations structure.

Turns out this is a pretty small run, no failures. Of the series numbers with potential issues, less than 500 went out to dealers and not all of those found their way to bikes...
