I normally don't get involved in political matters and tend to mind my own business but this to me is disturbing and yes I will contact the necessary people and voice my opinion.

Subject: Action Alert: Ordinance could mean an end to organized rides in Iowa County

Date: October 22, 2013 5:40:01 PM CDT

If a proposed ordinance regulating bicycle and motorcycle rides in Iowa County passes, it may mean the end of some of Wisconsin's favorite organized rides in the Driftless region, including the USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championship, Bombay Bicycle Club’s Wright Stuff Century, BREW tour, the Dairyland Dare, GRABAAR, the Horribly Hilly Hundreds, and even the weekly group rides. The next Iowa County Transportation Committee meeting is Monday Oct. 28th at 6pm at the Dodgeville County Courthouse, 222 N Iowa Street, Dodgeville. WI 53533.

Hopefully this will follow the same trajectory as most of those super-restrictive ordinances: a large and energetic response by local cyclists, after countless hearings, manages to kill it.

It's unfortunate that we have to constantly be fighting this sort of battle, but for fringe sports that have to share a common space with a majority that has no use for them, that's just a way of life.

Sent my email to the county highway commission yesterday…

Not sure that posting the phone number here is a great idea, though.

I know cyclists can sometimes feel marginalized, but let's not forget that "the bike lobby is all powerful" (http://theweek.com/article/index/245061/watch-pulitzer-prize-winner-rants-against-all-powerful-bike-lobby), according to Dorothy Rabinowitz. And, I'd like to believe that compared to street luge, texting drivers, and whatever the heck this is, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXWK8FE5kuw) we are just slightly better at obeying the rules of the road and not disrupting other road users.

obeying the rules of the road and not disrupting other road users.

Oh yeah - real strong points for 100% of all the cyclists out there. :(
