I am looking at a bicycle barely used with Shimano 600. How desirable is it has a group.
I want only the frame and fork if I buy it would sell (see below)
It has:
Pedals: Shimano 600. SLIGHT scrape on bottom of right pedal. VERY MINOR scratches on right clip.
Front derailleur: Shimano 600 clamp on; no signs of use inside the cage, or anywhere else for that matter.
Rear derailleur: Shimano 600. I can see original grease on the spring – NO dirt!
Shifters: Shimano 600 braze on.
Hubs: Marked Schwinn. 126 mm rear spacing. With SunShine skewers.
Freewheel: Shimano 600. 13 – 15 – 17 – 20 – 24 – 28. I do not know the thread. Marked MF 6207.
Tires: Schwinn Circuit clinchers, marked 27 x 1”. No sign of age or use at all!
Rims: Wolber Gentleman 81 Super Champion
Seatpost: SR Laprade, 27.2 mm diameter. This clearly shows scratches where the height had been adjusted through the entire range of the post.
Saddle: Avocet USA R11
Headset: Shimano 600. No outside markings showing the thread type. Marked HP6207 on the top nut.
Stem: Cinelli 1A; 26.4 mm clamp diameter, 22.2 mm quill diameter; 100 mm long. MINOR scratch above the insertion point.
Handlebars: Cinelli; 63-40, Campione Del Mondo. Wrapped with Benotto tape and plugs
Brake Levers: Shimano 600. Hood are marked Shimano, and are very supple, no cracks - like new. Absolutely NO road rash.
Brake Calipers: Shimano 600. Pads show negligible use.
My guess for the above $475 to $625
what is your best guess

Check prices on eBay for individual components. My sense is that the Shimano 600 Tri-color is more desirable than the "plain" 600 components. Are the ones you have tri-color?

I think that your price seems pretty optimistic, but there are those who would desire it at the proper price.
I don't want to seem insulting if the group is part of a nice older bike that you're considering purchasing, but I also wouldn't advise that you'll fund the bike purchase by flipping the group.
The non-shimano hubs would be a detraction if I were a mechanic assessing the value, but the condition is more important than any particular item.
Without seeing it, I'd say fair value is around $100 for that list of items in great condition, assuming that it includes the unlisted items that are necessary to complete a bike build from frame and fork. The 27" wheels limits the applicability to other bikes, but 700c wheels for freewheels are almost equally worthless and substitutable if found.

well I just posted some pics of the bike I picked up in the "lugged steel" thread that has this group on it... the group I have on my Centurion is pretty much what you list with the addition of Shimano hubs and Biopace and I only paid $325 for the while thing... either I got a screaming deal or your prices are a little high...

I'll agree with others that the value estimate is very optimistic, even if it were tri color 600.

Here's a completed listing for a Mercier bike with the more-sought-after 600 Arabesque group:

And one for a complete group in nice condition:

Charles, figure maybe $275 for the group. 6207 (pre tricolor and pre SIS with non aero cabling, for those non-Shimano-Oids) is very nice and will actually nice shift a 10 speed cassette with friction, but sadly is generally unappreciated.

thanks for the help. Yes I was too high for the complete group.
$275 seems max. and that could be too high. More like $175 to go with around city bike.
but I sure like the near new frame.

6207 Shimano 600 kit is very nice stuff. This group is on my '84 Jim Redcay built Ross Signature 508.

Now that's an attractive Ross.

I've been patiently seeking a Redcay built Ross for some time now. Sooner or later I'll stumble into a nice example like yours.

Not a fan of non-tricolor 600. I don't think it holds much value anymore either.

Keep dreaming. In the last year, I have bought two 6207 bikes (a breeding pair of '84 trek 610s), two arabesque bikes (lotus supreme and a Ross... Something) and a 6208 bike ('86 nishiki tri-a). All were in excellent condition. The most expensive one of all was the tri-a at $175.

You'd be lucky to get $250 for all those parts [if sold as a lot] while complete bikes are lurking on craigslist hovering around the $200 price point.

6207/8/9 is one of my favorite groups, prefer it to Arabesque or TriColor. I just paid $38 to replace a pair of brake levers I sold here 2 years ago for $20. Still looking for a rear hub, crankset and freewheel.

I just sold a Cannondale 2.8 with a full group of the dark grey pre-ultegra 600 for $350. I don't know it that helps at all.

Bottom line, Charles: good, solid, reliable and attractive friction shifting group that is largely unappreciated.

Oliver, I can help you with the crankset and probably the freewheel, but my last good 6207 rear FW hub is being built into a new wheel set. Those things last forever.
