Last night I replaced the Campy 11 speed chain on my Goodrich.
I took a few links off the proper end to get it sized. Did not alter the end that comes with the Campy tag that says never to touch.......
I used the two appropriate Park tools.
I pushed the pin too far, apparently, on initial placement.
I peened it per usual.
Went for a ride today. Heard a few little pinging sounds as I rode, made it about a mile and then before I could figure out where the sound was coming from, the chain popped open.
The outer links apparently spread a little, and the pin got inside enough that the outer link, on the inside (bike facing surface) got off the pin and the chain popped open.
That outer link is slightly bent. Otherwise the chain looks fine.
To re-use the chain I would have to take off the link that Campy says is sacred and never to be taken off.
Question: If I get an 11 speed connector link, and take off the slightly bent link, then re-close the chain, will I still live to tell about it?
Thanks.
