I am the proud owner of this new rig. It is handlebra. Actually second set, had blue stitching done initially, but the bike color designed changed.

Bike also doesn't have Cosmic's or that thin seat, it was used to photograph, as my wheels were at home. Bontrager xxx lite, with decals removed and terry carbon fly saddle.

I recently bought some in solid black leather from AR...and it's going on a white Parlee, soon. Looking forward to it. The wrap feels like a piece of warm, fresh bread, dipped in olive oil, with sea salt and basil (this is my best Rapha marketing but it is true!).

Is that a Macintosh rose on the head tube? That bike looks great, I like the little details of color here and there. The stitching on the bar wrap fits the subtle details on the bike nicely.

Now that is what I am talking about! Great product Ray. Has gotten a little out of my price range but if I were purchasing a new bike like that I would not hesitate to spring for it.

I have had the green-with-gold-stitching on the Concours for what, Ray, four years now? Still looks new, even if the stitching has faded a bit. Unwrapped and rewrapped various times.

Now I have to decide on HB for the incoming Look. I'm thinking white with red stitching, red with white or even gray (to match the silver in the logos) with red.

I keep waiting for my "cigar" Handlebra to discolor. On my Hampsten STBI, it still looks like new after years of use.:)

I fully understand .... about the price.
Due to federal reserve system dilution, I am constantly forced to
raise prices. My cost for quality leather increases every year.

That is serious problem... the stuff lasts way too long ...
I loose sales !

four years ? and still looks new ?
how many normal re-tapings is that ?

People even re-use it from bike to bike ..
more sales lost !

big fan here in vegas. i've got it in red, white, blue, black and purple (yep). 8 bikes worth. When Kirk gets the 10 year anniversary bikes out, it'll be on number 9. Great product Ray, well worth the price, and great customer service.

I simply don't believe the chart

Price an item in 1970 ... price it now ... let's say 40 years forward

I claim that most prices today are now 10 times the 1970 price ..

1970 BMW 3200 ........................................2010 price 32,0000
1970 New York University Tuition 2500...........2010 price 50,000
1970 cup of joe 15 cents............................ 2010 price 150
1970 Slice of Pizza 30 cents........................ 2010 price 2.50
1970 gallon of gas 32 cents............................2010 price 3.30
1970 in state NY college tuition was 600..............now ??????
1970 Mcd burger 15 cents...............................now ????
1970 Soda Pop 10-15 cents........................Now 1.00 - 2.00
1970 house in NJ 30,000................................Now 300,000
1970 Schwinn Paramount 300..............Now isn't the frame just 3-5K ?
(300 is for the entire Bike! with Campy)
http://schwinncruisers.com/catalogs/1970.html

1.059 ** 40 = about 10 (1.059 is about 1.06)

So I claim the actual inflation rate is about 6%
So just to stay even, your investments must return 6% after taxes.
and of course your salary must increase at 6% after taxes too.
and that is just to stay even !!!!

In 1970 a New York City Janitor made about 12K with overtime.
I doubt that same janitor makes 120K now.

That 1970 NYC Janitor could afford a new car and a college education
for his children.

Actually inflation is not inflation at all .... it's money dilution.
too much money chasing too fewer products.
too much water in the Gatorade

Blaming inflation on higher prices is like blaming rain on wet streets.

10x is about right. And for starting salary as well in most professions.
Median income was 8,700 a year
Gas was 36c a gallon, also an increase of 10x
DOW was about 800 (20x increase)

I didn't know you made your bar tape in 1970 Ray, how much was it then?..and ya know, the wet streets are because it rained.

When I was working at a bike shop, 1976, selling cheap Schwinn's, the owner had us re-wrap every bike we built with better handlebar tape. Thinking this was a contact point customer could feel. Wonder if sales in high end shops would increase if they pro-actively wrapped with handlebar on the 10K pinarello's.

Only if the customer said go ahead. I remember more than once, tape was torn, we rewrapped and customer complained...or had to OVH lever, bar tape didn't survive, replace with same and get same response 'wish you would have called', about $15 tape on that $10,000 bici. So, we called....
