Been wanting to try these but was very satisfied with Vittoria Rubino Pro for the type of roads I ride. Saw the Cont.GP 4000S for sale on ebay for $34.39 so I took the plunge. What's the consensus here?

Small pluses and minuses to all tires. Conti 4000 are great for puncture protection and general durability/reliability. The roll well too, though not as supple as a Veloflex clincher or even the Pro Race 4 from what I understand. But the Conti's are good tires for cycling.

yep. they wear very well. resist flats nicely. and give you a nice, though not great, ride. they're a no-worries tire vs a oh-that's-supple tire. good choice for every day training.

I prefer 4000s to michelin pro 4s. Think 4000s is a great tire. Excellent puncture protection (for me) good grip yet feels pretty fast.

Excellent tire. Rolls well and is almost indestructible. Wears nice too, I believe I have 3000km on a pair and I'm thinking it's about time to replace them, although they could go another 1000km. I still prefer the Michelins for ride quality but they are more fragile. The GP4000S is the best of many worlds.

PS : I never flatted on those Conti's in 3000km. Never. And the streets of Montreal are crap and full of it.

I love the GP4000S. My fave all around tire in a 25c. It's the best combo of durability, ride, and performance I've found.

Michelins Pro2/3/4 are a close second for me. I actually think the Michelin ride is a bit more cushy/damped feeling, but they cut easier than the Contis. I loved the super wide Michelin 25 Pro2s... later Pro3s are not nearly as wide in the same size. I get pretty good durability out of Michelins too, except for the casing cuts.

I had Veloflex Pave and Vittoria Open CX and CGs. Very nice tires but they just didn't last at all. Seriously, only a few months of riding for me on these and the tread was paper thin and then the casing bulged. Maybe 1000k lifespan. Plus, they didn't stick at all when it was wet out.

You really can't go wrong with Conti gp4ks...

A buddy bought a set of 25s that were taller than my 28 4-seasons (both installed on 23mm wide rims). Too large for my buddy so he sold them to me. Very nice tire, but we never determined if they were mislabeled or do actually run very large.

That boggles my mind. I think the GP's flat protection is good for a race tire, but no flats in 3000k, wow. In my experience, flats aren't common but it seems like every 4th tire has sidewall issues (a lot of stuff on other forums about this). Also, I dont think I've ever gone more than 1000 miles on any tire without a pinch flat. LA must have larger potholes and bigger rocks/gravel than Montreal.

Dont think i had a flat on gp4000s ever. Perhaps my memory is off but i have had great luck with these and most of my riding is in the city. They were truly great in this regard for me.

all of this.

Veloflex are better race tyres, more supple. Rubino Pros are tougher, harder, less supple, and damn sketchy on wet roads. GP4000s best all rounder.

I've never flatted on those Conti's plus that's an amazing deal. It beats out PBK which i though was THE cheapest around.

Been riding since Spring on 4000S 25c tires. Good so far, like 'em.

Thanks for the replies. Most of my rides are on the streets and roads in and around San Francisco. Looking forward to seeing how they ride and absorb the local terrain.

I race on tubulars, except in the rain. For those races, I use GP4000s clinchers aired down.

Been using them on my road bike all summer and really enjoy them, only other real experience was gatorskin and gatorskin hardshell though, tough to tell the difference really. Except they are lighter

You'll like them . Great handling and wear. That's a great deal, too. Best price I've gotten is $40 delivered.
