"Five people, including a 2-year-old boy, were rushed to the hospital after a man went on a rampage with scissors on the Upper West Side, police said. The incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday on a bike path along the Hudson River near West 59th Street..."

crazy to think I rode by right where it happened maybe 10 minutes before the incident this AM.

a few weeks ago people were robbed and beaten up near the GWB by a few thugs.

considering riding with pepper spray attached to my shoulder strap/commuter bag?

Interesting that the quote identifies the scene as "a bike path" when the victims were two joggers, dog walker and father and toddler (in a stroller).
Easier targets for the nutcase perp, I guess.

http://www.nytimes.com/1984/10/30/science/how-release-of-mental-patients-began.htmlTrue. I've been thinking lately about the closing of the mental hospitals, whenever I hear a story like this or the one of the Hunter College student pushed in front of a Metro-North train last week by an insane homeless man: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/09/25/woman-pushed-in-front-of-metro-north-train-in-white-plains/.

The thread title is incorrect. It was a single act

The thread title is incorrect. It was a single actI also had this other recent story in mind: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/09/03/warning-issued-to-bicyclists-in-nyc-gang-attacking-riders-along-the-hudson/.

In any case, I've changed the thread title. :)

sigh - i live and commute right along that area. i'm not sure what's worse, the random kids who throw rocks and bottles at you in central park or the weirdos on the path.
