I'm in the late stages of planning a custom build and I'm planning on using an ENVE fork. The plan would be to have the ENVE logo colored to match the frame color (probably in some shade of fluo pink) and I'm wondering what you're recommendations are to go about accomplishing this. After contacting ENVE, they recommended contacting Calfee for paint options as the logos are painted on. I'd like Togo a slightly more budget conscious route, custom decals would probably be ideal. Any ideas?

Firefly has the machine to make stickers/decals that are an exact fit for laying over gaudy white Enve letters. Seems the sticker stock they use in the machine would be available in a variety of colors, although not an exact match to paint. A lot o folks not fond of Enve's approach to aesthetics. Wonder what kind of machine cuts those stickers?

Paint it and forgo the logos all together.

The Firefly approach as seen on my Carver:

. . . prevents owners from removing stickers and eleminating the billboard aspect. I also find this pretty annoying, since I've also seen some press hat some wheel manufacturers are doing the same thing with their deep section carbon rims. The are in effect trying to force you to be a rolling billboard.

Really ticks me off . . .

Any local custom painter for moto / auto worth their salt has a plotter...
It will create masks (positive and negative) for any graphics loaded. They can knock out a mask for cheap.

That said, Any reputable frame painter will have a plotter as well and be able to handle this for you easily.

I have a vinyl cutter and I am planning to make some ENVE decals for myself to do the same cover up.

You will have a few problems.
-Florescent vinyl is not cheap
-It is hard to find in small quantities (normally sold by the 10yrd role)
-It tends to fade very quickly

That said I am game to help you out if you would like.

I asked Enve about this and they sent me the graphics files in Adobe Illustator format to be done locally. I will admit its one of those things I haven't gotten to yet so I can't report on results.

I am assuming Enve has done their market research properly, but it seems to me more people hate rather than like that giant logo on the forks. I think they used to sell them sans logo, right? I think the ones supplied to framebuilders now have the logo on them. I ordered an Enve fork from a builder once and I had to pay to have the logo sanded and the fork re-cleared.

If they just used firefly's method of darkening their logo, then people wouldn't send to paint and remove their marketing totally. White on black is slowly getting old now.

Ask Spectrum Powderworks. They paint Enve forks with or without painted logo, any colour, every day. They use liquid paint on them despite their company name :)

Thanks for all the responses. I guess the issue for me lies in whether I decide to have the frame powder coated, which I'm leaning towards, or painted. If powdered I'd likely go the decal route as color matching wouldn't be as crucial. If paint, I'd likely send the fork to the painter. If it makes a difference it's (soon to be) rock lobster.

Paul Sadoff at Rock Lobster uses Allan Neymark (http://neymark.com/bicycles/index.html) as his wet painter. Why not speak with Paul or Allan to see what they can do for you? Perhaps buy the fork direct from Paul and you'll save shipping charges if you choose to have Allan paint it.

Count me a very satisfied Rock Lobster owner.

That seems very reasonable, they have to sand the fork cause its carbon dont they?

might just be me, but i think the painted matching fork and rock lobster logo look way better than the enve logo... image found here: http://www.rocklobstercycles.com/frames/cyclocross/

If you want a direct match with the frame color you could do one of two things.

You could use the Enve illustrator file (on their site) to make a mask and actually paint it on. The con here is that if not done right, the edges can be soft.

The second option is to have a color mixed by a silk screener to match the paint chip color of the bike, then have a decal screened. If done right, it should be dead on. The con for this is the setup cost for a single screen and basically two pulls.

I can't seem to find the file, care to help? I can find their style guide and images, but not the logo.

Thanks in advance.

This. Paul did powder on my frame and paint on my fork and the color match is spot on. He asked if I wanted a matching fork, I said yes, and he took care of the rest. You're in good hands.
