So Audi has a concept e-bike that with human assist will do 50mph.

Hill Topper out of North Dakota has a front hub replacement wheel that is a 10-15 minute upgrade for most bikes. http://www.electric-bike-kit.com/hill-topper.aspx?gclid=CJLqjbPY37kCFWFBQgodWE8AeA

I'm all for gadgets but would like to know if anyone has done any work or purchased any these bolt on mods?

Would like to share some of the wisdom on BTDT experiences.....

I have built a number of electric cars using the Porsche 914 platform. I had one that could burn tires from a standstill. I killed the charge with 25 miles....

Depending on how I wired the batteries I could get as much as 100 mile range at 50mph.

For my own edification how much would one spend on a 100 mile range 914?

Lot's of variables.....battery types, lead acid, Optima style, NiCads, 6volt or 12 volt, the type of controller, the DC unit, how many volts you plan on using....etc.

I used to buy sell 914s when they were cheap and plentiful. Hard part is finding one that wasn't a rust bucket.

I was able to purchase all the parts for close to cost and had a roller sitting in my garage. 6 months and 28K later I had a running e-car. I fooled around with different batteries and controllers for about 2 years.

Then divorce, retirement and family issues I sold everything off. Was able to cash out with little or no loss.

Paul Brodie had his "E Bee" at the last NAHBS and it is a beauty.

I think the reception was less than cool towards it but his fabrication and engineering skills are exemplary.

Scooter with pedals? Here in the republic, cannot ride on MUP, nor in 'bicycle lane', not fast enough for into 'traffic'...good for local neighborhoods I guess.

Has anyone ridden one?

BTW, rumor has it that Moonbeam has signed the CA 3 foot law.

My wife has knee joint issues, and is limited to about 10 mile rides on the MUT at a relatively slow pace. She would like an "E" bike legal on the trails.....probably would have to be limited to about 15 MPH (not sure of local law on this). Otherwise....seems to me it would need to be legal to use in regular car lane for urban use. At least as fast as a 50 CC gas scooter.

The bomber has a two stage motor, 20mph governor and a 50mph limit for bombing the trails.
