After like, a three-year wait (talk about vaporware!) I finally took delivery of a new Tacx Fortius resistance trainer today (like a Computrainer.)
SUPPOSED TO BE STATE-OF-THE-ART, LOL!!
Why "LOL"?
If you've been following any of the threads about this item in the newsgroups, you might conclude that the software is, as SNL used to say, "Not ready for primetime."
I've ALREADY encountered a very goofy glitch. One of the supporting strut tubes was incorrectly drilled to accept a bolt. I had to clamp it in a drill press and drill my OWN DIFFERENT pilot hole to get it to fit!
Yikes!
And the unit it attaches to (a steering unit) is NOT a new item for Tacx! How is this even possible? That something they've supposedly been selling for over a year comes improperly jigged?
Does not forbode well.
Having gotten the unit itself physically together (when assembled it IS a pretty thing) I will now tackle the software side. But as I said...there is a LOT of information (along with a lot of grumbling) in the newsgroups to digest first.
I'll let you guys know how it goes as I (hopefully) get it up and running.
Here's to a winter project!
