Most folks around here have probably heard both sides of the “Knee over pedal spindle” vs. Keith Bontrager’s “Myth of KOPS” article (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/kops.html ) discussion.

I’m wondering if there is a similar argument for pedal cleat placement. For example, my Look pedals always say to place the pedal spindle below the ball of the foot (it actually says “under the big toe axle”).

Bottom line: Do you put the ball of your foot over the pedal axle, or if not, where, relative to the pedal axle? Also, if you do not use BOPS, why?

Thanks
Louis

it's all about weight balance. measure your foot. put the cleat so the axle of the pedal is exactly one third back of the length of your foot. that's where your foot wants to support your weight. disregard everything the jerk has just said if your a match sprinter or only care about the last 200m of a road race....
