My DIY Rollers made it onto a blog!

I know there are several probably people here who run their own business so getting internet publicity isn't anything new, but for us simple people, something like this doesn't happen everyday. I have gotten a lot of requests for the detailed build list, 1,547 (plus the 3 messages I woke up to this morning) to be exact. It has been a lot of fun to help others out who have an interest in something I built, especially since it is probably one of the few projects I have ever built to be successful!

Todd Norbury, blogs on "nonprocycling.com" came across my video and asked me for a build list along with permission to put it on his blog with a few details about myself and how I came up with the idea. Its really not that big of a deal, not like it is the front page of the New York times or anything but, cool for me non the less.

It works fine. Only difference is the legs on the kreitlers have a round leg instead of flat like mine have. Could be a little more difficult for those that have to drill through the round leg and make it completely square to the platform. Otherwise your wheels may be at an angle and not roll correctly.

I've looked at similar DIY designs, and yours looks much simpler/easier. (The others didn't have the metal L sections) Suprising how much the bumpers help...

I've got a very similar setup I started working on last winter but never finished.

I used the (same?) Nashbar rollers. I drilled the legs and mounted up some rollerblade wheels, just like you.

Only problem I have, the frame doesn't seem to move freely. The wheels spin smooth and without weight on the frame it moves just fine. But, as soon as I weight it the whole thing kind of gets locked- like there's a flat spot on one of the RB wheels or something. I did use some worn wheels, maybe that's the problem?

Did you have any issue like this, and what are your experiences with the tension required for the bungee setup?

Looks great but what does it do to have the free rolling thingy? I like the bumper idea too although it eliminates one of the sort of introductory hazing rituals for roller noobs :D

Rain bikes can be inexpensive and functional. It doesn't have to be a custom Winter with fenders and Paul canti's. Although that would be very nice.


Tell you wife that it will get you out of her hair when you are stuck inside together during those LONG winters. Heck, that fact alone would get my wife to chip in on the bike!
