I'm helping a friend put together a CX bike to do some races in San Jose. Anyone local who could give me some insight into course conditions? What clinchers would you recommend for a CX beginner on those courses?

CX courses in the Bay Area are pretty dry and fast -- typically lots of loose dirt, gravel and sand -- I always liked running Michelin Mud clinchers in front and a Jet in back.

Also, friends have liked the WTB cross wolves in the front/interwolfs in the rear.

How about Kenda Smallblock 8s or Ritchey Speedmaxs?
Both are pretty good in those conditions.
