Anyone been using the Shimano CX-70 derailleur? Any real advantage over using a standard Ultegra or 105?
Thanks,
John

I have one on my Ritchey Breakaway Cross bike.
It shifts really well. I have the CX70 cranks as well with 6700 shifters and I have no complaints.
I have 7900 and 6700 on two other bikes and the front shifting is good on all of them in my opinion.
I haven't held the CX70 next to the 6700 but I think the curve may have a smaller radius to match the 46-36 chain rings better.

I am running a CX70 FD with a Sugino "Swiss Cross" 48-34 crankset and bar-end shifters. The shifting is great, like flipping a switch.
It looks nice and it comes in top pull.
Unfortunately, I tried to use it on a monster cross bike and it did not work. The bike has road shifters and a mountain double crankset. The front derailleur cable is routed along the top tube, so the top pull was a convenient option. However, the cable anchor hits the pivot, preventing it from shifting to the big ring because this is 2.5 mm farther out on a mountain crank.
That aside, a 6600 Ultegra derailleur has a screw at the back of the cage that allows one to install without breaking the chain. The CX50 derailleur has a far less convenient rivet.
If you need the top pull and use a normal set up, it should be great. Otherwise, the 105 or Ultegra are probably better.

I use it with an otherwise Campy 11s Athena drivetrain on my cross bike. It works well enough but does not "trim" very well.

I stuck with a regular ultegra FD b/c I swap out CX rings for Compact 46/36 for 50/34. I'd rather have that option.
