City police said Justin Price, 20, of Clifton Park died at Albany Medical Center Friday night after being airlifted there with serious injuries from the accident.

Price was riding east on Lake Avenue near the intersection with Wiebel Avenue when he was struck by a tractor trailer traveling in the same direction. . . .
alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the 5:30 p.m. collision.

That just totally sucks. The rider was only 20. Since both the cyclst and the big rig were eastbound on Lake Ave., and it looks like there's a wide shoulder, I wonder how it happened.

Wow that sucks. I have been here in Saratoga Springs for three weeks and have ridden every single day except that Friday.

Edit; I did ride that day.
More importantly, I drove right by the truck that night. I was coming back from a private airport with a friend and we were detoured around that intersection. I could only see a truck with what looked like some shopping bags spilled under the rear section. Police were detouring cars around the intersection and we did not stop to look.
I only put it together today that I saw the intersection and truck.

I'm wondering if they drug tested the cyclist as you'd sure as hell have to be drunk or stoned to do what the article suggests he did.

I can think of other ways this could have happened, but hope that I am wrong.

Could be a simple case of someone calling his cell phone, reaching for bottle, even over looking at odometer, or even looking at a hottie nearby. Haven't you drifted once or twice?

Wow. How sad.

Is that the intersection right by the ice rink & the Stewarts?
