I saw something new (to me) last weekend. They're self-adhesive paper arrows that come in a roll. The ones I saw were green, and I have to say, were a lot more visible than the usual painted stuff.

These are pretty standard for the organized rides in the Bay Area. In fact, so many rides use them, I noticed that the organizers for the Holstein 100, which I rode last weekend, took the trouble to write an "H" with a thick Sharpie on some of the arrows.

This is because the guy who owns/invented them lives locally. I met him at the Bicycle Outfitter breast cancer ride last fall and I have a few pink ones we might put on Madz wall just for fun. They apply with a food grade adhesive and eventually just wear off and "compost"

I looked into these for a ride I organized a couple of years ago. They were kind of pricey so I used temporary marking paint instead.
