I ride my bike because I love the feeling it gives me on the road: I feel free. It's about feeling free to explore, to push myself, to put my daily worries aside temporarily and just be in the moment.
But after watching this documentary (http://vimeo.com/15464226) tonight, I saw what freedom means to a group of young athletes from Rwanda. It's about economic freedom -- being able to provide for yourself and your family -- as well as freeing yourself from a legacy of a tragic past with this sport. They're bringing a renewed sense of pride to themselves and their country through their pursuit of excellence. It's a marvelous film to watch.
There was a man from Rwanda in the audience and he commented afterwards during the Q & A session that the most touching moment for him was seeing Hutu and Tutsi cyclists become best friends -- because they represented the future.
