Shimano 6700 short cage rear der and 11-30/32 cassette, Shimano CX 50/70 crankset 36/46 and Shimano 6700 shifters?

Just want to make sure.
Thanks
Vincent

Note: FD is also 6700

Pretty sure you can only run a 28 with a short cage?

Anyone else?

Might have to use a longer b tension screw and/or short RD housing to pull the cage away from the 30t.

The only potential problem there is that largest cog and your RD. It will work on some frames but not on others. (I think it's a function of the distance between the rear dropout and the RD mount. The larger that distance, the more likely that a large cassette cog can be used. But this is at the expense of shifting precision in the smallest cogs.)

Technically the RD is a road medium cage/mountain short cage.

I know someone who successfully ran a 30t on his 7970 RD by swapping in new pulleys but they are rarer than hens teeth with a pearl formed around them.

In my opinion AND experiences, yes it will work. Just today I finished a build of a Look 585 with near the same setup you have, mine is compact 50/34 cranks, 6700 short-cage rear dérailleur and 6700 shifters. This is the 6th bike that I've built using this combo and in every single instance everything worked as it should. The only caution is to size your chain using the big/big method and adjust the B screw so the upper jockey pulley clears the big cog. In a worst case scenario you would have to replace the 11 tooth upper jockey pulley with a 10 tooth wheel.

Shimano changed the geometry of their rear derailleurs with the introduction of the 5700/6700/7900 series, IMO with an eye towards the popularity of compact cranks and larger cassettes replacing triple setups.

The mix of bikes that I've done this with has run the gamut of production bikes of three manufacturers and custom bikes from three different builders in steel and aluminum. All of this leads me to conclude that the above derailleurs will work with most any bike being made today.

Dave, was this with a 32 or a 30 that you've done 6 times?

I'm looking at putting on an 11-32 with a 6770 Di2 RD, and was considering having to buy a 6700 mid-cage and swapping the plates to get enough chain wrap capacity for a compact double (50/34).

In all cases an 11-32 cassette was being used. I can't speak to the 6770 derailleur as I've not used one but I would say borrow (or buy) an 11-32 and give it a try with your existing components, it's not expensive. I would postulate that a 30t cassette would be a slam-dunk.

I have a Ritchey Breakaway Ti Cross that has 6700 shifters, CX 70 36/46 crankset, CX 70 front and 6700 Mid Rear derailleur with a 12-30 cassette.

I'm not sure if you want the short derailleur for aesthetic reasons or if you like the shifting better but honestly the setup I have shifts very very well.

I honestly probably couldn't tell the difference between the shifts with the 6700 and the short cage Dura Ace 7800 on my Serotta Ottrott.

Either way, good luck with your bike build.

Installed many 12-30 onto mentioned setups. Works great.

Boo-ya.. 11-32 works fine with the RD-6770 on my Parlee Z5SLi. Didn't even need to add links (I went as long as I could when I installed the chain the first time) - Big-big is tight, but still has some slack (ie, not pulled totally straight.)
