A friend recently purchased a a near-mint Dave Scott Centurion with a six-speed freewheel (13x21). I have an old disc wheel with a 13x24 that I'm trying to remove a Shimano 600 freewheel (13x24) to use as a replacement for the 13x21. The lock ring on my 600 freewheel is frozen and giving me fits.

Any ideas for removal?

Cheers.

What have you already tried?

I've simply used the splined lock ring tool and a the biggest adjustable wrench that I own.

Shimano 600 freewheel (13x24)

does this particular freewheel have a lockring or is it actually a freehub?

Put the freewheel tool in a vise, use the wheel as leverage, or find a cheater bar for the "thumb wrench".

+1--This has always worked for me. You are probably dealing with a freewheel not a freehub with a lockring. The entire cluster of sprockets will come off as 1 unit.

The vise idea worked great. Yes, the freewheel is one unit without a locking.

Thanks to all.

Cheers.

That works for frozen fixed cups ( with the proper tool) also.
The frame provides great leverage.
