"Belgian cyclist Eddy Peelman of team Super Ser carries Dutch cyclist Gerben Karstens of team Gitane on his shoulders during the 1975 Tour de France. The two were fined 50 francs for their stunt, and Belgian cyclist Rene Dillen (in the background) was fined 25 francs for holding Karstens' bicycle."

Nowadays any of us would have to pay twice that amount, for that much fun. Beautiful!

I hope Gerben didn't forget to shave his inner thighs that morning...

Here's a frightening thought: consider doing that with any bike raced in this year's Tour. . .

Naw! Photoshop!

Okay, I stand corrected. I wouldn't want to try it myself, though. . .

And yet, I wouldn't want to try half the stuff I did all the time as a kid.

No.

Ok, in that case, yes I agree with you, as illustrated by this essay I posted a while back. link to thread. (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?p=1323050) I wasn't sure if it was a sarcastic dig at that.

The photo of Kelly, Konyshev and LeMond is a great illustration of your point, as is this one of Marino Basso at the 1972 World Chamipnships in Gap. He's completely shocked that he has won, as you can read from the expression in his eyes. If he had been wearing sunglasses, you wouldn't be able to see that.
