I am currently running 10 sp Shimano Ultegra 6600. Just wondering what some preferences and suggestions are for chains. I have always used an ultegra 10 sp. How are the KMC chains? SRAM? Anything I should know? I am looking for a chain that interfaces well but doesn't set me back 65 bucks.

I would stick with Shimano. I tried a Sram chain on a DA drive train and it did not perform (shift) as well. I have heard both good and bad on KMC but have not tried one. But my drive train has been flawless with Shimano chains....DA in particular.

Also, can i run a SRAM quick link on a Shimano chain? I love the ability of my SRAM chain on my MTB to take it off to clean the drive train.

yes no problem. install new quick link when you install a new chain. I like Wipperman better, SS and no tool needed, but more $

kmc for me, i get the cheap ones that work pretty well, compatible with all the different groups i use, wipperman never worked well for me, campagnolo chains are too expensive for me

KMC - far better than Shimano or SRAM in my experience (mostly due to the fact you get a nice little split link with them!)

Chains and cogsets are consumables. I recommend the least expensive compatible cogset and chain. A more expensive cogset or chain doesn't do anything, last any longer, than a less expensive one, does.

KMC, 5701, both work well and are not $65. Anecdotally, sram and Wipperman seem to wear cogsets out more quickly than the 2 mentioned plus don't seem to work as well, when new.

I've used all of the above and have settled on KMC and its quicklink. As oldpotatoe said, they are consumables so expensive gets you little. The only thing about SRAM chains is that they are a bit noiser than others.

KMC is a very nice chain, like it much better than the Shimano product.

KMC on all my stuff. Though admittedly I am a Campy guy.

Another vote for KMC here. Works fine with my SRAM drivetrains. And I much prefer their reusable link over Shimano's pin.

KMC --- unless someone else is buying.

KMC here too...

Kinda makes you wonder why Shimano doesn't have their own removable link. KMC has to be killing that segment of their business.

Shimano's 105 and Dura-Ace (CN-7901) chains. Great shifting performance with less noise. The only difference between the two chains is the metal finish; I prefer the polished 7901. KMC's missing link (and other brands of removable links) fit Shimano chains.
