Wheel turns backwards

Rear wheel spins backwards when back pedaling whilst cleaning bike... Is this normal... Am I harming anything by preventing the wheel from spinning...The wheel is about 7 yrs old mavic ksyrium ssc

Might be time for a re-lube... cassette body is dragging.

Also take a look at the pawls. They may be worn out and not allowing the freehub body to turn freely.

I have well lubed and adjusted Chorus hubs and if I really spin the pedals backwards I can get the wheel to spin backwards too. There's drag there...no avoiding it. The question is: how much?

Doesn't mean anything, in that direction the freehub engages and the whole system turns as the wheel is turning.

mavic hubs use a crappy plastic bushing instead of an inboard bearing on the freehub body. some lubrication on the bushing could help.
