View Full Version : Is there a way to use a BB30 crankset on non BB30 frames?

I thought I read somewhere that someone made external bearings for using BB30 cranks on non-BB30 frames but Zi can't seem to find it anywhere.
Was it just a figment of my imagination or is it possible?

I have seen bb30 cups for use in Italian threaded frames. I think the ones I saw were made by rotor, and you could use rotor's bb30 cranks in a threaded frame.

It's possible for some "BB30" cranks that have wide spindles, like Rotor, Zipp and SRAM Quarq arms. (not normal SRAM cranks though)
And yeah, you have to use a special BB.

I read there is a way to use the Cannondale hollowgrams using a zipp bb and some machining to the spindle. I think the thread was on weight weenies.

Needs the MTB axle though. "Real" BB30 has a smaller q-factor that would never fit on a 68mm BB shell with external bearings.

Thanks
I was hoping as I have a SRAM Red BB30 crank set that was replaced with a Quark that Zi have not been able to sell and wanted to try and reuse.

spindles may be too short if you find a set of out board bearing cups that would work.

Oh right that was the last part of the mod that I forgot

Pretty much have come to terms that it won't work.
I guess I'll just have to keep trying to sell the cranks in the classifieds.
Thanks for the input
