I have a feeling this topic has been covered....buuuut....what the hey....

So my wifey and I will be in the market for a new house sometime very soon. one of the stipulations of the househunt is there is some sort of den that opens out into the living room with a doubledoor.....and this den will become my BIKE DEN! Where i can store my many bikes, set up my bike stuff (park bike vice, tools, etc)....be able to work on my bikes and still sort of "hang out' with the wife....then have double doors to close it all off so she "dosn't have to look at it"

anywho this is the feature i am most excited about. suprisingly allot of houses we are looking at have some sort of room that will work for this exact purpose.

This comes to my inquiry....i have about 8 bikes total...well including my wife's bikes....and im trying to start brainstorming artistic, beautiful and/or well-designed ways of storing my bikes.

What are some of the most artistic/beautiful and/or well-designed bike storage systems you've seen? less garage, more modern-living room esque.

any help is appreciated :)

I'm pretty sure there's a thread somewhere around here (or was it "across the hall?") with guys posting pictures of some pretty awesome bike storage and/or work areas.

It's only one bike, and not artistic, but the wife approved it:

And yes, there is a thread but I can't recall the title.

A bike, a lounger and a can of 7-Up, not a bad set up. ;)

Here's another one, but still not the one I have in mind, that one (the one I can't find) has pics of a really cool workshop area (other than Kevin's)

It gets better. The room also has three coffee makers (drip, syphon, moka pot) and a record player.

record player.

This (Sota Cosmos) would look pretty neat in there:

That is cool.

I went with an older (than me) jvc turntable, Sony amp, and Polk speakers, they are "hidden" in the end tables that match the pictured coffee table.

The record player is on the other side. The other device here is a single cd/DVD audio player.

i want something nice and designer haha
currently, i literally had to build a barn/shed to house my bikes, and now that im moving my collection indoors eventually, i want my bike room to feel more like a "bike collection" and less like "bike hoarder's basement" if that makes sense haha....more furniture-esque and less "hooks screwed into the garage beams"

bikes are art and should be displayed as such! :p

I just noticed where you are - only about 1.5 hours from the Renovo showroom in Sausalito. They just redesigned their wood bike stands (debuted them at the Cyclepedia exhibit in Portland last month), and they are sleeker and prettier than ever.

If you go with the hooks on the walls, these are really nice and easy to use - no lifting involved, swivel, sturdy. I think they may have been mentioned in one of the threads linked above.

wow the Renovo wood bike stand is pretty amazing.
i dont think ill have the budget for 8 of them haha, but maybe 1 for my "featured" bike....
and those steadyracks are some of the nicer "hook type" executions ive seen, thanks!

This probably doesnt help, but I've always dreamed about having a bike room.

It would be at the end of hallway that makes one question the destination.

The hall should be dimly lit with an innocuous, unassuming closed door.

When the door opens to the bike den, a crescendo begins within the room, but otherwise nothing is seen.

As the music quickly builds, a light in the center of the room gradually begins to shine down upon your current prize in the stable while in the background lights emerge from underneath the remaining bikes carefully arranged around the perimeter.

But ensconced upon a beautifully custom made pedestal that slowly rotates for the eyes to absorb all is the current focus.

on one wall, every tool imaginable with outlines of each drawn on the peg board for perfect arrangement. A large tub for cleaning. And a permanently mounted work stand.

ok...so there it is. pathetic? probably:bike:

haha that was awesome!
basically i want a...."realistic" version of your dream bike room :)

at a few houses we looked at, there is a "den" room...like a small living room area seperated by double doors from the main living room.

i typically work on bikes inside the house (and i work on bikes way too much)...that way i can still converse with the wife instead of being locked away in a basement or garage. however she puts up with lots of bike stuff being strewn across the living room. i try to not let it get bad...but sometimes it does :)

So with a bike den attached to the living room, i can house all my bikes and tools, work on bikes with the double doors open, but then close them when im done so she wont have to see it.

i imagine having one wall be covered with vertically hanging bikes by nice hook-type system....but then have one fancy stand to show off my best bike (something like the Renovo wood stand)...the other side of the room would be my park tool stand and craftsmen tool drawers. it would be cool if this side of the room had a rubberized floor, because im constantly dropping metal tools on the ground.

anywho i should be excited in general for us buying a new house, but really what im excited about is the prospect of finally having a bike room :)

I'm jealous. Working in my apartment in Manhattan is not very inspiring. Every drop of the wrench I fear irritating my neighbors down below.

Then there's the cat rubbing against the chainrings while he lurks about, and worst of all is the 2 square feet of work space right by the entry to the kitchen where one drop of grease could lead to catastrophic damage towards the relationship with the wife:eek:

I'll see if I can find a photo of the peg board wall I mentioned. In my opinion it offers a whole other level or organization and saves space as well. I'd call it art, but that's just me...

The first time I saw it was in a shop in Harrisonburg, VA. They had DIY section for the public to fix their bikes along with a stand. An easy way to keep inventory was to have all the tools outlined on the wall.

i want this:

but for bikes.

best thing is, it could practically be done in a 12x6 room.
