Hi,
I found a used Giro Ionos for sale. The ratchet/ adjuster is a big red dial with
some white in the center.
I think current Ionos have a small black adjuster button.
Anyone know what year switched to the black button? Is that current
adjuster system superior to the earlier?

FYI, it's a black and orange Livestrong model---never knew there was such
a model.
Anyone know the year?
thanks for any help on this!

None of that ever existed, it's a knock off.

My Livestrong Ionos was black with yellow stripes/lines. It had Roc-Loc4, so no dials. 2009/2010 I think. The person may have replaced the retention system with Roc-Loc5, but the center of the dial should have a little "G" on it.

I think the Ionos was discontinued at the end of 2011.

Why buy a used helmet though?

Agreed.

Ya just don't know what it's been through.

Helmets, gloves, shoes, pedals, handlebars, shorts and saddles are items where it's not a good place to cut corners. Helmet has to work right once and only once. The other items are where the rider meets the bike.

Comfort and safety are the only way to go.

There should be a sticker inside with the month/year it was made. However, don't buy a used helmet. Also, according to helmet manufacturers, the polystyrene hardens at some point, so they recommend not using an old helmet.

If you're trying to buy one on a budget, check out Performance's sale.

I have to put in a plug for Giro Atmos. Granted, the inner shape may not fit some heads, but you can often find them reasonably priced --- regular price approx $175,, got mine on sale for $124. I can personally attest to this model's effectiveness. Replaced the crashed one and have no doubt the new one will do its job, if necessary.

You 'can' get a less expensive model. All helmets in the US have to pass the same tests. Generally speaking, the lower priced models are not as comfortable (venting-wise) and are heavier. If that's not an issue, get the $29 - $49 variety.

It's a new in box used , to clarify. There's a picture of the Giro box but seller
says box has no detailed sticker with the model.
I also asked him to check helmet but he said no model sticker.
I only pieced together from the pics that it is an Ionos, it has the indented tail in the back etc.

not against seller but YOU do not know the history, age, nor storage over that time, JUST go buy a cheap new one if it fits:cool:
