Outstanding.

Thanks for sharing.

Tempting to visit. We will be in Bergamo visiting my wife's niece later this summer.

Not so far, but I won't have a bike along on that leg.

Cool. Thanks.

And gomango - tons of places to rent bikes down in Bourge... you shouldn't miss it if you're that close. It's a very cool ride!

I don't know what tech that Tour image was produced with, and it doesn't look like it is posted to the Getty Images web site yet, so I can't check. One of the possibilities is here (http://www.gigapixel.com/).

The Machu-Pichu photo looks like it might be GigaPan. Every now and then I like to look through the http://gigapan.com/ site just for the cool images, and they also have a "Learn More (http://gigapan.com/cms/about-us)" section and a bunch of other info. But mostly I just go there to look at the pictures! It is very handy that the pop-up menu on the "View" icon near the top allows you to view "Most Recent" with one click.

This image (http://btlondon2012.co.uk/pano.html) apparently holds the world record - a 320 gigapixel view of London published just this past February. They claim it allows you to zoom in on individual streets up to 20 miles away. One of my other recent favorites is this higher-up view of London from the Shard (http://www.willpearson.co.uk/virtual-tour/gigapixel-view-from-the-top-of-the-shard/).

This is another cool site (http://explore.glacierworks.org/) that makes extensive use of high-res panoramas. It has some of the most amazing photos of Everest I've ever seen.

Sorry for drifting off-topic...

The one of Machu-Pichu most certainly could've used a gigapan....just looking at that website, the technique/technology sound identical.

Thanks for all the links to the gigapan, etc. Those pics of mt Everest are awesome. I think if I spent some time zooming in, I could see some of the dead bodies lying up under the snow.
