So, what's your favorite brand of bacon?

Brand? We get most of our meat from various local farms on Saturday morning at the farmer's market. Come on, this is the paceline...we are riding $10k bikes, do you think we eat Hormel?

I was at Walmart last week (first time there in over 2 years). And I was tempted to try Wright Brand Bacon. They buy a lot of ad time on the local sports talk station. Just couldn't bring myself to spending $9 for bacon at Walmart.

I don't always eat bacon, but when I do, I eat Benton's. (http://bentonscountryhams2.com/)

The only bacon I know that has a waitlist.

The Richard Sachs of bacon (does that make it kosher?)! I'll need to try it some time.

Not Kosher, but we don't buy chazerei for the house.

Hillside Turkey Farms in Thurmont, MD makes a Turkey Bacon that rocks -- it's real meat, not pressed whatever weirdness, and sort of a cross between a smoked ham type thing (a la Canadian bacon)and a baconny thing. Maybe not fatty enough for some tastes, but it's delicious.

And then there's that Dartagnan duck bacon . . .

Local butcher makes two kinds of house bacon -- one is cured with truffle oil, the other in sorghum butter.

Both are outlandishly good.

I haven't had red meat in 15 years. Damn I miss bacon. And don't even try to tell me that pork doesn't count. I know "it's the other red meat".

We make our own, but I'll use Wright's from time to time. Thankfully it's not a Wal-Mart exclusive. Were it I'd never know about it.

Only shipping orders have a waitlist. If you walk in the store, they've plenty available for face-to-face customers. Took the kids whitewater rafting on the Ocoee over the July 4th holiday, stopped in and got 4 lbs, only have 1lb package left. Its not even in the same category as "bacon."

Also, their prosciutto is amazing.

at our local Ralphs Supermarket and Von's we have old-timey butcher display cases besides the modern displays of packaged meats. Both sell thick-sliced bulk bacon and it is better than any pre-packed stuff I have tried and it only costs $3-4 a pound. Admittedly I have not tried some of the esoteric brands mentioned above.
We have a local market/butcher shop called Seisel's where they smoke their own bacon and it is, forgive me, a cut above but costs $8 lb.

they are awesome. best burger that I've ever had (and i'm a burger snob!) I usually blend a lot into my burgers but this is one that just doesnt need anything.

they sell it in patties that are pretty big, about a half pound, maybe a touch more for $6 each . usually i split it in half to make two burgers and put it on a brioche from amy's bread in the same market with some aged cheddar from the cheese shop in the market. maybe a little spread of locally made dill pickle relish?

I was just on holiday in Sabah, Malaysia (on the island of Borneo). No pork products anywhere- I guess due to Malaysia being predominantly a Muslim country.

During our hotel breakfasts we encountered the strangeness of "Turkey Ham" :eek:and "Beef Bacon":eek:.

Needless to say, after the first day I stuck to paratha, curry and sambal for breakfast.

In some Muslin countries where there is a large ex-pat and/or tourist population, the major hotels will serve pork products...but on a separate table clearly labeled as containing pork. We used to joke that anyone who would be willing to approach the pork containing table would be openly laughed at by the other diners in the room.

Several years ago, I decided to do some yearly photo challenges on Flickr. One year I attempted to ride my bike everyday (only missed one day), and the subsequent year I decided to try and eat bacon everyday (http://www.flickr.com/photos/plattyjo/sets/72157611984930675/with/3214814684/) (missed about a week - it's harder than you think to do something methodically for 365 days!)

In case you were all interested, there may soon be relief from high Bacon prices (http://qz.com/157136/good-news-your-bacon-might-get-cheaper-next-year/).
The invisible hand of Adam Smith seems to have responded to high bacon prices with higher production. Economics at work.:banana::banana:http://helifreak.com/images/smilies/BaconDance.gif

Reviving this thread (especially the Hormel reference) due to breaking news...
http://www.grubstreet.com/2014/08/bacon-powered-motorcycle.html
(It was a toss-up between this thread or one of the motorcycle threads. Anyone recognize the original bike?)
http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/grub/2014/08/12/12-driven-by-bacon.o.jpg/a_560x375.jpg
Hormel Foods has built the world's first bike completely powered by bacon grease biodiesel. When mixed with other compounds, a pound of bacon grease renders out to make a gallon of "pig fuel" that produces, as a by-product, the sweet smell of bacon in the motorcycle's exhaust. The bike gets 75 to 100 miles per gallon, which at $3.50 a gallon isn't bad, and naturally, this whole thing rolls with a phalanx of marketing gimmickry, including a special hashtag and a Hormel-financed documentary to chronicle its cross-country voyage.

The lucky driver of the pork motorcycle is described as a "bacon lover," and as is custom with these things, the trip across the U.S. sounds like it will be a journey of self-discovery and lard. The crew is looking to connect with kindred bacon fans, noting, "we're obviously bacon to the core."
