This Eddy Merckx LMX frameset (new) was recently posted on ebay. I am a fan of Eddy's geo and this model is probably 2009-2010:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDDY-MERCKX-LXM-CARBON-FIBER-ROAD-BIKE-BICYCLE-FRAME-FORK-FRAMESET-50-CM-56-/261244573785?pt=US_Bicycles_Frames&hash=item3cd363d859#ht_13887wt_1397

The seller looks reputable. Any opinions?

BTW, it comes with a seatpost since Eddy uses a weird diameter.

Thanks...

If carbon floats your boat and it fits, I'd say it's a heck of deal.

You could probably find someone local to go take a look at it.

It's brand new and he has a few of them...unfortunately none in my size!

I would be seriously tempted if he had one in my size, looks like a great deal...

It looks great, and they are great bikes. My worry is whether it is authentic. Merckx is owned by Pinarello, which are made in China and are notriously ripped off. Could that be the case here?

It could be authentic, or not. But it's not something in the Merckx geo as I understand it.

Read this: http://www.cyclinginquisition.com/. At the end of the article, there is mention that they are now producing carbon to their own specs.

If you like it and the geo is OK, it's only a couple hundred more than one of those frames without the Merckx logos. Not really a big deal in the whole scheme of things.

I have one, and it's legit.

Unfortunately, I damaged the internal headset cup on the headtube while trying to assemble the bike on valum after a visit to the dentist :(

I thought about fixing it, but just gave up and bought a whole Cannondale Synapse instead because my local shop offered me a killer deal.

So I have a new frame, fork and seatpost in 54cm equivalent, if someone wants to buy it really cheap and fix it!!!

The link shows $599 not $699. ;)

This frame was before they were sold to Pinarello. When I bought my MXL, the shop had a bunch of them in stock. They were trying to talk me into an AXM, which was about $4000 for the frame alone. It was sexy, but not that sexy. This is a lower model than the AXM but still super nice.

I'd have no issue with this one and would say it's 100% legit. Just an unbuilt NOS model.

Seen those been sold for a while now, the reason is why nobody wants them, the price is good IMO.
