I'm 10 episodes in, and for the life of me I can't figure out what the hell is going on here. For a murder mystery/thriller it ranks as one of the worst shows I've ever had the misfortune of coming across (almost the Fountainhead of books; please don't get me started on this as I'll rip your defense up rather unceremoniously).
I do intend to suffer through the remaining 20 episodes, out of curiosity for its hitherto undeserved (high-)ratings. But still, I'm willing to accept that something in my interpretation is wrong...I can't see what, but maybe one of you can help me on that.
For the record, I'm more of an Inspector Frost person.

Hmmmm, wouldn't this time be better spent doing something enjoyable like, say, riding..............or having your teeth taken out :)
Just for the record, I've never seen a minute of it, so can't comment on whether it's any good

What decade is this?
I checked to see if this thread had been revived from before the internet was invented. Can we discuss who's doing what to whom (generally involving evisceration) in 'Games Of Thrones'?

Yeah, but I watch it only when I'm done with the day and have an hour or so before going to bed. I wash down the drivel with some "QI" or "Would I Lie to You" though

Haha...yeah, I have a thing about not seeing the recent serials. I'll probably get to Game of Thrones in another decade or so.

The murder was a Mcguffin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacGuffin), Lynch never wanted to have it solved, but was "convinced" to do so by ABC. The show got really bad in season 2 when Lynch's left day-to-day production to Frost.
DAMN good coffee.

If you don't like David Lynch's movies, I wouldn't bother. How did you feel about 'Blue Velvet'? I watched it again a few months ago and I didn't think it had dated at all--amazing movie.

If you are looking for a conventional narrative, you're doing it wrong. It's all about the characters, mood and texture. The show will not satisfy your need for "answers".
A big reason the show was so influential was that it was so completely different from anything else on TV at the time. It was a huge risk for network TV. I was in high school at the time, and the show blew my mind. Forever changed the way I look at cherry stems . . .

this is the one.......... This show was/is all about mood. there's very little action, nothing blows up, no gun fire, follow the dialoque and you might get something out of it. one of my favorite shows. yep, cherry stems :)
If you want something with a modern pace watch BBC's Orphan Black should be out on cd by now.

Agreed.
Look at it more as a piece of art and a fun ride to be on.
If you don't like it watch The Wire. If you've seen The Wire... Watch it again, as it is the best tv series ever.
Twin Peaks will probably become even less satisfying for you as it goes, especially if you question it's logic. Now if you can get yourself some damn good coffee and a piece of pie and sit back and enjoy the ride it will be quite fun.

Although the coffee pot with the trout in it is interesting, and I did love the whole series, skip to the movie "Fire Walk With Me".

I've never seen it but am intrigued. If you want something to completely confuse you and waste your time read 'Naked Lunch.'

Twin Peaks was pretty unique entertainment at the time it was first shown...doubt that it's aged all that well.
if you want the quintessential David Lynch experience, just watch Eraserhead alone in the dark on acid.
I'm six episodes in right now and totally enamored with the show.
80 different story lines of cray-cray.

Gosh, if you are not happy after the first 10 episodes, which were probably the best 10, I don't think the next 20 are going to make you happier. My (possibly inaccurate) recollection is that it just continued to devolve. I don't think continued efforts will bring more satisfaction or clarity if that is what you seek.

I'm going to hold off on passing judgment until I'm done with the series, but I'll say this much - I expect to start off as a successful stand-up with the material gathered just from this show; bloody hilarious stuff.

Great film. Also have to mention the fact Lynch insisted the DVD be cut without chapters. :help:

I needed multiple mixed drinks after watching Blue Velvet when it came out -- I mean this as a compliment to the director.
